He started his career in Brazil with Palmeiras, then moved to Italy in September 2002 and signing for Siena, a then Serie B team, which later earned promotion to Serie A.
In late 2003, Taddei was seriously injured in a car accident. His younger brother Leonardo died in the accident and his teammate Pinga was also hurt.[1] Upon recovery, Taddei returned to playing for Siena.
After another season with Siena, Taddei left on a Bosman free transfer and signed a five-year contract with Roma on 3 June 2005. He earned a gross salary of €1.75M in the first season and € 2.23M in the next 4 seasons.[2]
Joining Roma offered Taddei the chance to perform on the European stage. He scored the opening goal in Roma's 2–1 victory over Manchester United in the first leg of the 2007 Champions League quarter-finals. However, he was injured in the warm-ups of the second leg and was ruled out of the match.
Taddei received some attention after he performed a move he later titled "The Aurelio", named after AS Roma assistant manager Aurelio Andreazzoli, in a Champions League group stage match against Olympiacos on 18 October 2006.[3]
On 7 June 2010 Roma announced that Taddei had signed a new 4-year contract in which he would earn a gross annual salary of €2.8M in the first three years and €1.9M in the last year.[4]
In the 2011-12 he is used as a left-back. He played 8 matches in first part of the season, and he scored one goal against Bologna. Roma won 0:2.
Taddei, who also owns Italian citizenship, has never been capped by the Brazilian national team. This allows him still to play for Italy. In February 2009, he stated publicly that he would accept a call from Marcello Lippi.[5]
